Short answer: the Blockhead ski mask by blockhead.shop is made to be worn with ski goggles, but goggles aren't included. It's a bright yellow full-face knit balaclava with a blocky toy-like head and one wide eye opening sized for ski goggles. You keep the goggles you already own, and they sit where they normally do. The goggles in our photos are just styling.

Does the Blockhead ski mask come with goggles?

No. You get the mask only. Most skiers and snowboarders already own a pair of goggles they trust, with the right lens and fit for their face, so the mask is made to work with those. The mask is $24.99 USD. Your local price is shown in the buy box.

How does the goggle opening work?

Most balaclavas have one opening sized for your eyes. Blockhead has one wide opening sized for a ski goggle frame. The thick black eyebrows sit above it and the mouth sits below it. When your goggles are on, the eyebrows, goggles and mouth line up into one cartoon face. Your goggles become the eyes. That's why the mask looks finished in photos with goggles on, and a bit odd without them.

Which goggle and helmet setups work with it?

Your setup Works with Blockhead? Notes
Ski or snowboard goggles, no helmet Yes The full blocky head and knit knob stay visible.
Goggles plus helmet Yes, with most helmets The mask fits under most ski and snowboard helmets. The face shows; the top of the head is covered.
Sunglasses Usually The opening is sized for goggles, so it'll look roomier with smaller glasses.
Prescription glasses Check first Read will it fit over glasses?

What order do you put on mask, helmet and goggles?

  1. Pull the mask on first and line up the eye opening with your eyes.
  2. Put your helmet on over the mask and close the chin strap.
  3. Put your goggles on last, with the strap around the helmet or over the mask if you're not wearing a helmet.
  4. Check that the bottom edge of the goggle foam rests on the knit, so there's no strip of bare skin between the mask and the goggles.

A general tip that applies to any full-face mask: warm breath can drift up into your goggles. If they fog, make sure the knit isn't folded up under the goggle foam, and open your goggle vents.

Is it warm enough to ski in?

It's warm enough for lift rides and cold days. It's a polyester stretch knit of about 150 g, a fun mask and not a technical base layer. On a very cold, windy day, keep your usual layers on under your jacket. For more on riding in it, see the funny snowboarding mask guide.

Which face looks best with goggles?

All four faces are built around the goggles, so pick on personality:

  • Tongue Out: a cheeky smile with a red tongue. The red really pops under dark goggles.
  • Big Grin: a wide smile with one row of white teeth. It's the face most people pick.
  • Chomp: a huge grin with a full grid of top and bottom teeth.
  • Smirk: a sly one-sided smirk.
